After a long steamy summer the St. Francis of Assisi Food Pantry continues to be busy as we charge into the fall season. A total of 309,816 pounds of food were received into the pantry and distributed to 40,343 people so far this year!
We have received numerous contributions and donations this year which have been critical to the continued operations of the pantry. We are extremely grateful for those contributions as they help sustain the pantry and serve our community.
The Elks Club is sponsoring a breakfast on October 30, 2016 at their location at 356 Washington Street. This is an important fundraiser for the pantry and tickets can be obtained by contacting Paul and Linda Zalanowski at 234-8564. Tickets can also be bought the morning of the breakfast. I can smell the bacon now…
The pantry will also be participating in the Newburgh Loaves and Fishes project again this year. Our clients can register at St. Francis Deacon Jack Seymour Food Pantry beginning 10/14 and continuing until 11/5. We will have a representative from the Newburgh Loaves and Fishes organization helping our clients to sign up for the Thanksgiving food basket distribution. Each basket will contain a turkey and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving dinner. The foods will be distributed on Tuesday, 11/22 from 8 am to 4 pm. at the First United Methodist Church, 245 Liberty St. Newburgh. Each client will be given a specific time slot to pick up their food items. Clients are asked to bring their own bags. Any volunteer who would like to help with this project, please check with Linda or Kathy for additional details.
We will also begin the backpack program for the 2016/2017 school year by November. Currently the backpack program has two grants that will provide a maximum of 560 backpacks per week throughout 13 schools. This program is partially supported by Orange Cares and Our Family Foundation.
Any volunteer who would like to help with this project, please check with Linda at 234-8564 for additional details.
A special thanks to the Salem Tabernacle Church of Beacon for their continued support in their pursuit of building improvements with their diverse construction talents and efforts. They also provide weekly volunteers to help the pantry operations.
We would not have been able to accomplish all of the above without the support of the volunteer staff and help from the community donations. Thank you All!
